What's in a name?

What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
Romeo and Juliet

My visiting teaching companion gave me an article about my name, Sophia. I found it interesting. I always knew that my name was Greek in origin and that it meant wisdom, but, I had never known about St. Sophia. I have to admit, I've always loved my name, and hoped that I could live up to the meaning of wisdom. I have also loved it for the fact that it was not a common name. It was one way I could feel unique, for, I thought, I had no talents worth noticing, and I am definitely not a raving beauty. So, my name was something unique about me. However, these days I'm hearing my name more and more. A couple of years ago I was sitting at the pool waiting for Ethan's swimming lesson to be done, and I kept hearing someone say my name. I looked around and found that a little girl who was on this junior swim team had my name. Wow, that was a first. Never had I heard someone say my name and not be talking to me. Then I had a girlfriend who named her daughter Sophia, not after me, but, because she had always liked it. Then just the other day in Walmart I heard some lady screaming at her child, and her name was, you guessed it, Sophia. Come to find out, my name has replaced Emily as the first choice of girls names! Oh no! I'm becoming common! Well, I think if this had happened when I was in junior high I might be very angry, but, now that I'm nearing 30 and have found my niche in life, go ahead and name your girl's Sophia. I might still look over when you say the name, but, I'm ready to share my name. I could try popularity out for a while:) Here is a graph I found at Baby Names Hub. I thought it was cool. So, now I'm tagging y'all who blurk my blog to post something about your names.

When you were to be born, I still wasn't sure what your name would be. Early on the morning you were born your name came to me as clear as day. I think you and your name really match. Love you, Mom

Fun post! I typed in my name and it came back with "O Results." Hilarious! There must be some Veritys out there, though. Apparently one brought her sewing machine into the same place I took mine. When I gave the business owner my name, she said, "Hmmm. We just had another Verity the other day." My personal opinion is that the lady may be hard or hearing OR mistake my name for Charity. :)
